My time in The Middle Terrace is coming to an end, J and I will be moving to a new house very soon so I thought I'd come back here and finish what I started. The house has gone on a journey over the last years, and it's taken me on one with it. There have been tears, stress, hard times and a shit load of days covered in paint, but this has been a good home. From the first moment I stepped in this house felt like mine, and I'm really going to miss it when I leave.
So here it is, this is my house as it stands today. The pictures are rubbish, but you get the idea. Maybe if I'd given this blogging thing a proper go, these would be beautiful, pinterest-worthy masterpieces that would blow your mind and truly capture the warm and welcoming home I've tried to create. Maybe just use your imagination and squint a bit.
Big Bang Theory + cup of tea, do I know how to dress a room? |
The master bedroom, which is just the fancy way of saying the only nice bedroom. Fun Fact: This room took 11 coats and countless trips to B&Q because we quickly discovered the existing nicotine beige liked to peel off in huge sheets as soon as any fresh paint went on the walls. Cue hysterical scenes of J and I getting a wall done, and then a huge swath of paint suddenly lifting from the wall and slowly sliding down like a wet deflated balloon. Totes fun.

"What are you doing?" |
The bathroom was similarly challenging, I have no true before photos because it was just too hideous to document, but picture yellow walls, dingy tiles, a filthy blue lino floor and more hair, mould and just general ack than you can shake a rubber gloved stick at. I originally painted this room Moonlight Grey, in an attempt to diminish how yellow and gross the tiles were and try to make the whites look whiter. There was also a glass shower screen, held in place by some kind of fungus. I'm fairly certain I used cleaning products which breached the Geneva Convention on it before I took matters into my own hands and ripped it the hell out. The first sprucing was kind of successful, but cue more hysterical paint peeling, with added bubbling just to keep it fresh. All that paint peeled from the walls after a few months.
The blurriness is helping. A LOT. |
An Art Shot of Le Sink |
And that's pretty much it. There is an attic bedroom, but it's still largely the same as when we first moved in, it just now holds a multitude of crap, not even crappy photo worthy to be honest. The outside is as scruffy as ever, the only changes are some serious weeding and a new coat of paint on the door.
Pin away. |
So that's it, that's my humble home. Despite all of the problems; the damp, the uneven floors, the godawful neighbours, this has been mine. I've put a lot of love and energy into making this pile of bricks just a little bit more special than it was, and I think I'll leave a part of my heart here.
I can't wait to start the next adventure, the house we're moving to could use some love, and it has so much potential. Maybe I'll start to blog about that one... Look out for a post in the next 3 years or so.
Thank you for reading and sharing this little bit of nostalgia with me, this post is more for me to look back at when I inevitably get home sick a few months from now, but if you've enjoyed reading, I'd love to hear about it.
